How we choose the products we recommend

  • Sourced specs
  • No prices or hype
  • Updated

This page explains, without marketing language, how every pick on this site is made. If a page ever does something different, it says so on the page.

1. We start from what owners need

Our shortlists follow real search questions: bowls for large or small dogs, puppies, flat-faced breeds, wet food, stainless steel or ceramic, cats, and so on. Each list answers one situation instead of crowning a single "best bowl" for every pet.

2. What we check for every product

  • Specifications from the maker or an independent retailer's spec sheet: diameter, height, capacity, material, dishwasher safety, non-slip base, and the dog sizes or food types the maker says it suits. Each pick shows a "Specs from" line linking the pages we used; when no source publishes a value, we show "—" instead of guessing. We don't take specs, reviews or ratings from Amazon pages.
  • Design fit for the situation: ridge depth and spacing relative to muzzle shape, whether the pattern works with wet food, how easy the grooves look to clean, and how stable the base is.
  • Availability in the US: we only list products sold in the US, and link to them on Amazon so you can check the current price and stock.

3. What we don't do

  • We have not run hands-on eating-time tests on the products listed, so we never publish "slows eating by X times" figures of our own. When a manufacturer makes such a claim, we attribute it to the manufacturer.
  • We are not veterinarians. Health-related sections cite veterinary sources (for example, the American Kennel Club, VCA Animal Hospitals and the American College of Veterinary Surgeons) and link to them.
  • We don't show prices, because they change too often to keep accurate.

4. Updates

We aim to recheck every list about every three months, replace discontinued products and record the date of the last real change at the top of each page. If you spot something out of date before we do, tell us.

5. Money

Links to Amazon are affiliate links. Commissions never decide the order of a list: a pick earns its spot by fitting the situation the page is about. See the affiliate disclosure.
